A collaboration between Ours To Protect, an initiative with Independent Broadcasters of Ireland exploring innovative models of climate journalism and community collaboration, and the Institute for Climate Sound & Society, this project matched up 16 radio stations and climate reporters with youth and schools across Ireland to experiment with scientific sound recording technologies like AudioMoths. The sound data recorders were placed by journalists in collaboration with kids from schools and the recordings were used to enhance climate reporting. The project launched in May 2025 with a workshop in Dublin that gathered reporters from all 16 stations. Then reporters set up AudioMoth recorders to gather 6 months of data. We look forward to sharing the stories and hope this can become a model globally for a new kind of sound data journalism.
